He began his football journey in the outskirts of Bordeaux, Southwest France, playing for small clubs before catching the eye of FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

At the age of 14, Kounde successfully passed a trial and joined the youth ranks of FC Girondins de Bordeaux. His talent quickly emerged, and at 19, he made his debut for the first team in a Coupe de France game against Granville.
