Alejandro Balde Martínez, the dynamic left-back making waves in the football world. Born on October 18, 2003, in Barcelona, Catalonia, to a Bissau-Guinean father and a Dominican mother, Balde’s football journey kicked off at FC Barcelona in 2011, where he honed his skills after progressing through the ranks at RCD Espanyol.

In July 2021, Balde committed his future to Barcelona, signing a contract extension until 2024 with an impressive release clause of 500 million euros. His talents shone during the 2021 pre-season, securing him a spot as Jordi Alba’s primary backup at Camp Nou. Despite starting on the bench for the opening matches against Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao, Balde marked his official debut on September 14, 2021, playing a key role in a UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

The 2022-23 season saw Balde stepping into a more significant role under coach Xavi, starting in more league matches than Alba and earning crucial minutes in important games. On September 20, 2023, Barcelona announced another contract extension for Balde, tying him to the club until 2028, with an eye-watering buyout clause of €1 billion.

On the international stage, Balde had the option to represent Guinea-Bissau or Spain but pledged his allegiance to La Roja. His unexpected call-up to the Spain national team just before the 2022 FIFA World Cup, due to José Gayà’s injury, marked the beginning of his international journey. Balde made his first appearance for Spain on November 23, 2022, in a remarkable 7-0 victory against Costa Rica, coming on as a substitute for Jordi Alba in the 64th minute.

Balde’s blend of incredible speed and technical prowess makes him a standout left-back, and his journey continues to captivate fans both at home and on the global stage.
