She is widely regarded as one of the best forwards in the world, and one of the most adaptable players in the game.

Born in Felanitx, Spain, Mariona Caldentey started playing football at a young age, inspired by her father and brother. She joined Collerense’s academy, where she played with boys until she was 14. She then moved to Collerense’s first team, where she made her senior debut at 15, and scored 17 goals in 68 appearances.

In 2014, she signed for Barcelona, where she has been ever since. She quickly established herself as a key player for the team, playing as a forward who can also operate on the wings, as a second striker, or as an attacking midfielder. She is known for her vision, creativity, passing, dribbling, finishing, and work rate. She has scored 44 goals in 103 appearances for Barcelona, making her one of the most prolific forwards in the club’s history.

With Barcelona, she won a continental treble in her first season, winning the league, the cup, and the Champions League. She scored four goals in that Champions League campaign, helping Barcelona beat Chelsea 4-0 in the final. She also scored six goals in the league, helping Barcelona clinch their sixth consecutive league title.

She repeated the feat in 2022–23, when Barcelona staged a remarkable comeback to beat Wolfsburg 3-2 in the Champions League final and retain their crown. She scored one goal in that final, assisting Barcelona’s comeback with a clever pass. She also scored eight goals in the league, helping Barcelona clinch their seventh consecutive league title.

On the international stage, Mariona Caldentey has been a regular for Spain since 2017, earning 54 caps and scoring 19 goals. She has played in two major tournaments with Spain: the 2019 World Cup and the 2021 Euro. She has also had success with Spain’s U-17 and U-19 youth categories. She has won two UEFA Youth Championships – one each with Spain’s U-17s and U-19s – and has been runner-up in two FIFA Youth Women’s World Cups – one each with Spain’s U-17s and U-19s.
