Keira Walsh is not just a midfielder. She is a record-breaker. The Barcelona midfielder has been one of the most influential players in the Catalan club’s dominant performance in recent years, winning a continental treble in her first season and setting a world-record fee for a female footballer. She is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world, and one of the most reliable players in the game.

Born in Rochdale, England, Keira Walsh started playing football at the age of five, inspired by her father and brother. She joined Blackburn Rovers’ academy, where she played with boys until she was 14. She then moved to Blackburn Rovers’ first team, where she made her senior debut at 16, and scored three goals in nine appearances.

In 2014, she signed for Manchester City, where she spent eight years. She quickly established herself as a key player for the team, playing as a defensive midfielder who can also operate as a playmaker. She is known for her vision, creativity, passing, tackling, and reading of the game. She has scored six goals in 118 appearances for Manchester City, making her one of the most consistent midfielders in the club’s history.

With Manchester City, she won the Women’s Super League in 2016; the FA Cup three times; and the League Cup four times, taking one domestic treble. She was part of the Manchester City squad that reached their first Champions League final in 2021, but lost to Barcelona 4-0.

In 2022, she signed for Barcelona for a world-record fee of just over £400,000, becoming the most expensive female footballer ever. She joined Barcelona’s star-studded squad that had just won their first Champions League title, as well as the league and the cup. She adapted quickly to Barcelona’s style of play, and became a regular starter for the team.

With Barcelona, she won another continental treble in her first season, winning the league, the Supercopa, and the Champions League. She scored one goal in that Champions League campaign, helping Barcelona beat Wolfsburg 3-2 in the final. She also scored one goal in the league, helping Barcelona clinch their seventh consecutive league title.

On the international stage, Keira Walsh has been a regular for England since 2017, earning 59 caps and scoring no goals. She has played in one major tournament with England: the 2019 World Cup. She has also represented Great Britain at the Olympics in 2021. She was part of the England team that won the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, and was named player of the match in the final against Germany.
