Ingrid Engen is not just a midfielder. She is a powerhouse. The Barcelona midfielder has been one of the most impressive players in the Catalan club’s dominant performance in recent years, winning a continental treble in her first season and adding strength and skill to the team’s midfield. She is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world, and one of the most complete players in the game.

Born in Melhus, Norway, Ingrid Engen started playing football at a young age, inspired by her father and brother. She joined Melhus, where she played with boys until she was 16. She then moved to Trondheims-Ørn, where she made her senior debut at 16, and scored two goals in 62 appearances.

In 2018, she signed for LSK Kvinner, where she won the league and cup double in her first season. She also played for LSK Kvinner in the Champions League, reaching the quarter-finals. She then signed for German champions Wolfsburg in December 2018, but returned to LSK Kvinner on loan for the first half of the 2019 season.

She joined Wolfsburg permanently in July 2019, and became a regular starter for the team. She played as a defensive midfielder who can also operate as a playmaker or a box-to-box midfielder. She is known for her vision, creativity, passing, tackling, and shooting skills. She has scored five goals in 41 appearances for Wolfsburg, making her one of the most consistent midfielders in the club’s history.

With Wolfsburg, she won the league and cup double in her first season, and reached the Champions League final, but lost to Barcelona 4-0. She also won the league and cup double in her second season, and reached the Champions League semi-finals, but lost to Chelsea 5-1 on aggregate.

In July 2021, she signed for Barcelona for a two-year deal, becoming the first Norwegian player to join the club. She joined Barcelona’s star-studded squad that had just won their first Champions League title, as well as the league and the cup. She adapted quickly to Barcelona’s style of play, and became a regular starter for the team.

With Barcelona, she won another continental treble in her first season, winning the league, the Supercopa, and the Champions League. She scored four goals in that Champions League campaign, helping Barcelona beat Wolfsburg 3-2 in the final. She also scored one goal in the league, helping Barcelona clinch their seventh consecutive league title.

On the international stage, Ingrid Engen has been a regular for Norway since 2018, earning 56 caps and scoring six goals. She has played in one major tournament with Norway: the 2019 World Cup. She has also had success with Norway’s U-17 and U-19 youth categories. She has won two UEFA Youth Championships – one each with Norway’s U-17s and U-19s – and has been runner-up in two FIFA Youth Women’s World Cups – one each with Norway’s U-17s and U-19s.
